Forensic Services Technician (FST)
The Major Crimes unit includes Forensic Services Technicians (FSTs), who respond to crime scenes and provide a number of services essential to investigations. They are responsible for crime scene photography, preservation and collection of evidence, and crime scene reconstruction, necessary for investigatory and prosecution purposes. The FSTs also maintain all evidence seized in the property room and are responsible for the distribution or destruction of the property following closure of the case.Carroll County Child Advocacy and Investigation Center
Detectives assigned to the Carroll County Child Advocacy and Investigation Center (CCAIC) are responsible for the investigation of any and all allegations of physical and sexual child abuse. These investigations include pornography and human trafficking complaints.
Crime Analysis Unit
The Crime Analysis Unit assists the Sheriff’s Office by compiling, calculating, validating, reviewing, and interpreting crime and traffic data. In addition to providing statistical information and analysis on the data, the unit reviews all police reports with the goal of identifying patterns as they develop. Analyses of trends, patterns, and hot spots provides law enforcement personnel with the “who, what, when, where, how, and why” to develop effective tactics and strategies to aid in preventing victimization and reducing crime.
Records Unit
The Records Unit is responsible for entering, validating, and maintaining all documentation relating to Sheriff’s Office and allied agencies’ warrants, protective orders, child support orders, criminal summonses, civil paperwork, patrol case records, expungements, and public information requests. This multi-personnel unit constantly communicates with deputies and other jurisdictions via national databases to ensure efficient processing and service of documentation so it may be returned to the Court Clerk’s office. Additionally, the Records Unit maintains the Sheriff’s Office yearly statistical data.
Digital Records Unit
The Digital Records Unit is responsible for The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Body Worn Camera ( BWC ) and In Car Camera ( ICC ) Systems as well as the related digital evidence database. The unit manages and fills BWC and ICC requests for discovery, prepares digital records for Court proceedings, and when filling requests for public information creates and redacts video files eligible for release to the public or media. Additionally, the unit works with allied agencies and other law enforcement partners for collaborative investigations.
Warrant Unit
The Warrant Unit locates and arrests individuals in Carroll County wanted on outstanding warrants for the Sheriff’s Office, allied agencies, and other jurisdictions. Deputies of the Warrant Unit maintain working relationships with federal, state, and local authorities to investigate the whereabouts of those charged in Carroll County but living in other cities and states, and returns them as fugitives pursuant to extradition policy and procedures.
