Training

The Training Section coordinates training programs for new and existing deputies in the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, maintaining standards required by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission.

New Law Enforcement recruits undergo a 28-week Police Entry Level Training program and Correctional recruits complete an 8-week Corrections Entry Level Training program. In addition, annual in-service training required for existing deputies and specialized training for special area deputies are administered through Training.

New hires certified in other jurisdictions throughout the state may attend Comparative Compliance Classes offered by the Sheriff’s Office.

Professional Services

Professional Services

Professional Services oversees all employment related functions of the Sheriff’s Office. The section coordinates recruiting, physical and psychological testing, background investigations and hiring for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The staff works to ensure that all candidates meet the rigorous standards of the Office and that law enforcement and correctional deputy applicants meet the standards mandated by the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission.

Media Relations

The communication of important information to the public, through press releases, traditional media coverage and social media outlets, is handled through Media Relations. For media members in need of interviews or specific information, contact Jonathan Light, public information officer, at xxx.

Accounting

Accreditation and Policy Management

Writing and editing policies, as well as their implementation and coordination once completed, is handled through the Accreditation and Policy Management section. This office also manages accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which maintains standards and best practices related to the life, health and safety procedures that are the foundation for contemporary law enforcement.

Information Technology

The Information Technology section provides support for all technology related operations for the Sheriff’s Office. This comprises testing and implementing software programs utilized by Sheriff’s Office personnel, providing and supporting all hardware and equipment needed in operational areas including internal offices, vehicles and mobile devices and coordinating efforts with County IT staff when needed.

Fleet Management

Fleet Management oversees assigning of all vehicles utilized by the Sheriff’s Office. In conjunction with governmental partners, fleet vehicles are ordered, maintained, repaired and replaced through this office. Pricing and contracts are negotiated and coordinated through the County Fleet Management department.
