Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Unit address verification results for July 2018
Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland; July 17, 2018 ---- During the timeframe of July 2nd through the 10th, 2018, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Unit conducted address verification operations. Address verification occurs monthly in an effort to ensure the integrity of the registry. With a list of offender addresses gathered from those who are due to re-register the following month, Cpl. McMillen, supervisor of the Carroll County Sex Offender Registry Unit, set out to make contact with the offenders to ensure the correct addresses are on file.
This operation makes use of funds from the Federal Sex Offender Compliance Grant. Cpl. McMillen responded to a total of 35 offender addresses, with the operation confirming 26 addresses as positively verified, and 9 addresses that were not able to be confirmed during this operation. There were no violations discovered.
Addresses that were not confirmed during this operation will be checked by Cpl. McMillen as time permits throughout the remainder of the month. Any addresses still unchecked by the following month will be added to the new list for future address verification operations.
The Maryland Criminal Procedure Article requires all Sex Offenders residing within Carroll County to register with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in the following intervals, which is based upon the type of crime for which the person was convicted (more information on Tiers can be found at http://www.socem.info/):
- Tier I Sex Offenders must register bi-annually for 15 years.
- Tier II Sex Offenders must register bi-annually for 25 years.
- Tier III Sex Offenders must register quarterly for a lifetime registration period.
- All homeless registrants must register once a week.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has been responsible for the registration of sex offenders in Carroll County since July of 2011.
